American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a nationwide,
community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to
eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing
cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering through
research, education, advocacy, and service.
The bladder plays a very important role in the totality of
our health. It functions as a reservoir for urine in our bodies. When the
kidneys filter waste from the blood, urine is produced that enters into the
bladder through two tubes called ureters, the bladder then allows the
storage of urine for a period of time before being released in urination
through another tube called urethra.
Cancer of the bone or bone cancer is a general term used when
cancer cells are seen in the bone. Cancer that begins in the bone is called
primary bone cancer. It is found most often in the arms and legs but it can
occur in any bone in the body. Children and young people are more likely
than adults to have bone cancers.
The term brain cancer although often
used by the general public is actually not the term often used by
the medical community. Primary brain tumor is the term used by the
medical community for tumors arising form the brain. In children,
most brain tumors are primary tumors.
Breast cancer is one of the most
commonly diagnosed cancers in women. It affects approximately one
out of eleven to twelve women at some stage of their life. Next to
lung cancer, breast cancer is the second most fatal cancer in women.
When did you first hear about cancer? We
have seen movies, heard stories and read about cancer almost
everywhere. Even our favorite actors and actresses have portrayed
the role of a cancer victim in a movie.
Cancer foods are foods that can cause cancer. Mutagenics
are substances which can eventually cause cancer if itís absorption
from prepared food is not prevented. By heating whatever food,
hundreds of different mutagenic substances begin.
Cervical cancer is a malignancy of the cervix. All over the
globe it is the second most common cancer in women. Scientists are studying
cervical cancer to find out more about how it develops and they are looking
at better ways to detect and treat it.
Globally, colorectal cancer also called colon cancer or bowel
cancer is the third leading cause of cancer. The frequency of colorectal
cancer varies around the world; it is common in the Western world and rare
in Asia and Africa. In countries where people have adopted the western diets
has an increasing incidence of colon cancer.
Kidney cancer occurs in approximately thirty one thousand Americans per year
and most patients diagnosed are between the ages of fifty and seventy. It
affects men about twice as often as women. At present, the causes of kidney
cancer are not well understood and can seldom be explained why one person
gets the disease and another doesnít.
